Emilio Coppola, 77, of Stamford, CT and Naples, FL, passed away on Saturday, January 28, 2017 with family by his side. He had been a seasonal Florida resident for the last 25 years. He was born January 1, 1940 in San Mango Sul Calore, Provinca Avellino, Italy, the son of Giuseppe and Teodora Coppola.
Emilio emigrated from Italy to Stamford, CT on November 9, 1957. He was a hard- working, self-employed stonemason and builder and he founded Coppola Construction Company in 1973. He applied his skilled artisanship and worked on many exquisite homes in Stamford, Greenwich and Westchester. His sons Joe and Robert proudly joined the Firm in 1990 and the company name was changed to Coppola & Sons Construction Company, Inc.
Emilio was a loyal member of the San Manghese Social Club in Stamford, CT. He was an avid bocce player and he played in leagues in Stamford as well as Naples, Florida. He was the Ambassador and founder of the Imperial Bermuda Greens Bocce Club in 2007 a sport he loved playing with family and friends. Emilio loved lobster and scungilli fishing along with playing the Italian card game Briscola. He enjoyed making homemade wine, he loved watching Italian films and soccer. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren at his poolside. He loved his wife’s homemade cooking and enjoyed having meals with family and friends.
Mr. Coppola is survived by his beloved and devoted wife of 50 years, Giuseppa (née Catino) Coppola; his loving children, Joseph (Elena) Coppola of Stamford, CT, Laurie (Craig) Smith of Orange Village, OH and Robert (Janelle) Coppola of Pound Ridge, NY; his loyal brothers, Fortunato (Luisa) Coppola of Stamford, CT and Teodoro (Judy) Coppola of Stamford, CT; eight cherished grandchildren, Gabriela, Emilia, Matthew, Sophia, Ethan, Dylan, Ryan and Julia; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews in CT and relatives in Italy.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home 104 Myrtle Avenue Stamford, CT Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. A funeral procession will leave the funeral home on Friday February 3, 2017 at 8:30 A.M. and proceed to Sacred Heart R.C. Church on 37 Schuyler Ave. Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9 A.M. Entombment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery Stamford, CT.
