Ernest William Shoemaker, born June 19, 1969 in Philadelphia, PA, died November 6, 2025 at his home in Stamford, CT after a brief, courageous battle with an extremely aggressive form of cancer. He is predeceased by his mother: Cordelia Mawson, and father: John C. Shoemaker, his brother: James Shoemaker (Petri Pieron), his step-sisters: Michele Phillips and Melissa Welsh (David), and survived by his son: Bradford Shoemaker, former spouse: Trudy Appling, brother: John R. Shoemaker (Alex), step-parents: Robert Mawson, and Julie Shoemaker, step-siblings: Monique Mawson, Mark Mawson, Gretchen Kuester, and Stephen Kuester, uncles: Roland McDuell, and Ernest McDuell, cousins: Dawn McDuell, Alyssa Raser (Eric), Shawn McDuell, and Ernie McDuell (Christina), nieces: Natalie Shoemaker, Julia Phillips (Ahmad Nasiri), Chelsea Thornton (Kaine), and Devyn Mangieri (Mark).
Ernie attended Wissahickon and Central Bucks West high schools, and graduated from Allentown College (DeSales University) with a Bachelors in Theatre Arts. As a child, Ernie was one of the youngest students selected to study advanced mathematics in Julian Stanley’s Center for Talented Youth (CTY) program at Johns Hopkins several years after its founding. After college, Ernie joined Lehman Brothers, embarking on a 30-year career in Finance, where he would come to be widely recognized as an expert in the valuation and technology of complex financial instruments. He was a member of the Bryn Athyn Church congregation in Bryn Athyn, PA.
Gifted with a quick wit and wry sense of humor, Ernie loved comedy in all its forms, and suffered many ignominies for his ‘unseriousness.’ But he reserved his deepest, most loyal sternness and devoted passion for his love of family; his son, and many cherished friends.
Services will not be held by the family at this time, but in celebration of Ernie’s life and love of living, many informal gatherings of remembrance attended by friends, family, and colleagues honor his passing. Ernie’s family are so grateful for the outpouring of love in online postings, and many phone calls and messages. Ernie remarked frequently over the past months about the miraculous abundance of love that he found surrounding him at the most difficult times.
