Euthemia “Thamie” Nanos, 73, of Stamford, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday December 12, 2013. Thamie was born in Port Chester, NY on May 18, 1940 to the late Louis and Sparta Giftos Gianukakis. Her greatest joy came from being with her family.
Thamie was a devoted member of The Church of the Archangels. She was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, a past member of the Daughters of Penelope and the church Choir. Over the past 26 years, Thamie and her husband dedicated much of their time volunteering at the Greek Children’s Cancer Fund and helping the families at the Ronald McDonald House.
Thamie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Peter C. Nanos, of Stamford, her daughter, Janine Soulios and her husband Nikolaos, of Stamford, two sons, Christopher P. Nanos and his wife Pamela, of Stamford and Paul L. Nanos and his wife Tracey of Farmington, as well as one sister, Elaine Katsaros and her husband George, of Stamford. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren; Christina, Alexis, Jennifer, Patricia, Peter, Michael, T.J. and Mia, and one great-granddaughter Sophia, as well as many relatives in the US and Greece.
Thamie is predeceased by her parents and a great-granddaughter.
Family and friends may call at The Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford St, Stamford, CT, on Sunday December 15, 2013 from 4:00 to 8:00PM, with a Trisagian Service to be held at 7:00PM. A funeral service will be held at The Church of the Archangels on Monday December 16, 2013 at 11:00AM. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Oaklawn Avenue, Stamford. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT is honored to assist the Nanos family with the arrangements.
