Evelyn Delores Britt Mcfadden
October 16, 1943 — March 22, 2007
Evelyn Delores Britt McFadden, beloved life partner of Bill, died at Stamford Hospital on March 22, 2007 after a sudden illness attributable to small cell lung cancer. Born in the farming community of Plant City Florida on October 16, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Lucille Britt.
For many years she served as Principal Organist and Pianist at Lone Oak Baptist Church, where her father was Deacon. She was a 1965 graduate of the University of South Florida with a degree in English. She then received a Masters Degree in Personnel Administration from Indiana University. While at Indiana, she met her future husband, Bill.
She was assistant Dean of Students at Cortland State University in 1967 and in 1968 joined AT&T-New York as Manager of College Recruiting. In 1969, Evelyn married Bill and they relocated in 1970 with Unisys Corporation to Fribourg, Switzerland, and subsequently in 1974 to Mexico City, Mexico.
In 1976, the McFaddens came to Connecticut with Xerox Corporation and moved to Stamford in 1983. In addition to being a full time homemaker, Mrs. McFadden was a gourmet cook, accomplished gardener, and was especially proud of her extensive orchid collection. A favorite hobby was solving the New York Times crossword and most recently developing an affinity for sudoku puzzles. She was a hair model at Zotos of Darien for over 20 years. Evelyn was an avid traveler, also. With her husband, she traveled extensively throughout Europe and the U.K. Their travels also included all of South America, several trips to Hawaii, a number of Caribbean resorts and Thailand. She was a sensitive, warm, caring, thoughtful, strong willed woman with a beautiful smile and will be missed by family, neighbors, and friends who were fortunate enough to have known her.
In addition to her husband of 37 years, she is survived by her younger brother, Olin and his wife Sandi Britt of Plant City, Florida; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her elder brother, Lester, who passed away in November 2006.
