Evelyn Mahan

Evelyn R. Mahan, 87 of Stamford passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, November 20, 2009 at Stamford Hospital. She was born February 14, 1922 in Stamford, CT , the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Catherine Costello Riley.
Evelyn was a former member of the Christian Family Movement, Mother’s Circle, Board member of Shippan Point Association and the Republican Town Committee. She was a former employee of the
Selective Service Board , Citizens Utilities, Muzzio Yacht Yard ,and she retired from Norwalk Cove Marina. She was also active in the Sacred Heart Academy Alumni Association and was a Founding Member of Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church where she was also named Parish Mother of the Year.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 62 years, John A. Mahan of Stamford; two daughters, Mary Ann Mahan and friend Saithong Ballapavanich of Norwalk, Carmel C. Mahan of Odenton, MD; three sons, Kieran T. and wife Blair Mahan of Medford, NJ, Brian P. and wife Martha Mahan of Manassas, VA, and Sean J. and wife Rebecca Mahan of Hampton, VA. ; and daughter-in-law Leigh S. Mahan of Ontario, Canada. She is also survived by nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents,her son Kevin J. Mahan, sister Catherine Sheehan and brother Thomas Riley.
Friends and family may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Sunday, November 22 from 2:00 �" 6:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:20 AM on Monday, November 23 and proceed to Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Rye Brook, NY.
