Fokion D. Hlebogiannis, 80, of Stamford, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 13, 2009 in Norwalk Hospital. Born in Athens, Greece on December 23, 1928, he was the son of Demetrios and Elpida Karsou Hlebogiannis.
Fokion was a veteran of the Korean War and was a chef aboard cruise ships for sixteen years. He was also a member of the Stamford Hellenic Society.
Fokion is survived by his wife Evangelia Koukoula Hlebogiannis; three children, Maria Hlebogiannis Stamboulopoulos and her husband Athanasios, Demetrios Hlebogiannis and his wife Veronica, and Ioannis Hlebogiannis and his wife Kimberly; two brothers, Panagiotis and Ioannis Hlebogiannis; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, all of Stamford.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Eleni Hlebogiannis.
A procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902, on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 9:40 AM for a service at the Church of the Archangels, 1527 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06902 at 10:30 AM with the Rev. George Poulos officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Woodland Place, Stamford. Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday, December 16, 2009 from 4:00-8:00 PM.A Trisagian Service will be held on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. Harry Pappas officiating.
