Francis Godfrend

Francis Joseph Godfrend (Frank), passed away on July 9, 2021 at Stamford Hospital after a lingering illness. Frank was born May 14, 1931 and was the son of Katherine (Kitty) and Felix Godfrend. He was a Stamford native graduating from Stamford High School in 1950.
He joined the Navy after High School and upon discharge from the Naxy attended the University of Miami and then moved to California and there under the GI Bill, spent several years at the Pasadena Playhouse pursing a career in the acting field. He lived in California for 6 years, learning the carpet trade to support himself while performing in several films. The theater and films remained a love of his forever.He returned to Stamford when his father became ill and it was there he met his wife Hildegard (Lilly) Hersy who was from the Hamburg area of Germany. They married in 1967. Frank then started his own carpet business, Carpet Mill Installation Company, installing carpeting in many homes and businesses in and around Stamford.Frank was an avid sportsman, excelling in marathon running. He also enjoyed skiing and loved playing golf. Frank and Lilly traveled extensively in Europe while visiting his wife’s family in Germany.
He was predeceased by his wife Lilly, his parents Felix and Kitty Gibson Godfrend and his sister Marion Odell.
He is survived by his cousin Esther Gibson and Family as well as various nieces and nephews in California and Germany.

A graveside service will be held on Friday July 23 2021 at St. Mary’s Cemetery located on North St. in Greenwich, CT at 12 Noon with the Rev. David Van Dyke offciating.
