Frank Ieva, 86, of Stamford passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Stamford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born in Stamford on April 7, 1928 to the late Nicholas and Anna (Discardi) Ieva.
Frank served in the United States Army and worked at Machlett Labs, primarily as a group-leader, for over forty years before his retirement.
Frank was an avid lover of the arts. He painted in oils and gave his works away freely to family and friends. He loved woodworking, especially designing birdhouses. He also loved spending time with his children and grandsons, especially in celebration of the holidays. During his retirement, Frank traveled extensively with his wife and son throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe and Caribbean Islands. He also enjoyed opera, movies, fine cuisine, history, reading and crossword puzzles. His love of life and generous spirit touched everyone he met.
Frank is survived by his son, Frank J. Ieva of Wilton, and his daughter Susan Vindigni and her husband Peter, of Woodbury, two brothers, Salvatore Ieva of Norwalk and Louis Ieva and his wife Mary of Stamford, as well as two step brothers, Anthony DeMatteo of Stamford and Nicholas DeMatteo and his wife, Eleanor, of California. His two beloved grandchildren, David and Jeffrey Hoyt, also survive.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F.Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday, August 14, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford, CT. Interment will be private at a later date.
