Gene Casciari
April 25, 1934 — April 13, 2014
Gene Louis Casciari, a longtime resident of Stamford, died peacefully Sunday morning, April 13, at Norwalk Hospital after a long struggle with the complications of Parkinson’s Disease. His loving son Gene Lawrence Casciari was by his side.
Born April 25, 1934 in New Canaan, CT, Gene was the son of the late Dominick and Maria (Fasciano) Casciari. He was a 1952 graduate of New Canaan High School, where he was named “Class Wittiest”. He went on to attend the University of Bridgeport before serving as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. For many years thereafter Gene commuted to New York City, working in the fabrics and wallpaper business. He was a Vice-President at Katzenbach and Warren Wallcoverings and Fabrics for more than 30 years. He also worked at Greff Fabrics and at Collins and Aikman. During his train commutes he joined a group of Bridge players and the game became a lifelong passion. As a young man, Gene also enjoyed golf. His love of taking long walks continued throughout his life. Gene served as a Cub Scout leader and as President of the Belltown School PTA.
Gene was a gentle man, whose enduring good humor and gracious, generous spirit endeared him to all those whose lives he touched. He will be sorely missed.
Gene was predeceased by his beloved wife Vera (Lopiano) Casciari, as well as an infant son, and also by his sisters Nancy and Antoinette Casciari and his brothers Thomas and Joseph Casciari. Besides his son Gene, he is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and by three sisters-in-law: Eleanor Banks, Anne Sessa and Virginia Dombrowski.
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday April 17, 2014 at 10:20 AM and proceed to St. Bridget of Ireland RC Church, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford, CT for a service to be held at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday April 16, 2014 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
