Gennaro P. “Blackie” Vaccaro, 92, a lifelong Stamford resident passed away peacefully on Friday August 5, 2016 at Stamford Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Gennaro was born in Stamford on November 10, 1923 to the late Paul and Rose Gentilesco Vaccaro.
Gennaro served his country during World War II in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1949, he was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 191 for over 30 years and also was a Union Delegate, a former employee for Arnold’s Bakery and the former owner of the Three Gables Restaurant, a bar on Cove Road for many years. He loved to make tomato gravy and was an avid golfer and sports fan, loved casinos and his two ‘grand-dogs’ Frances and Luigi.
Gennaro is survived by his two daughters, Lori G. Vaccaro and her husband Frank Moretti, Jr. of Stamford and Joan Vaccaro Rees and her husband Gus of North Carolina, and his three grandchildren, Bryan P. Rees, Nicole Moretti and Michael Moretti, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gennaro is predeceased by his loving wife Dorothy M. Ambrosecchio Vaccaro and his two brothers Nicholas Vaccaro and Daniel Vaccaro.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday August 9, 2016 at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery Mausoleum, Darien. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the Vaccaro family with the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Gennaro’s memory to the St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
