George T. Ayers, Jr., 83, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at home in Stamford. Known to his friends as Bud, Born on July 25, 1926 in Newport, Rhode Island, he was the son of the late George T. and JoAnne Cappucilli Ayers, Sr. George is survived by his wife, Shirley Linde Ayers, to whom he was married to for 47 years.
After serving his country in World War II, as a Navy Seabee, he pursued a career in comedy where he performed all over the world as Bud Mitchell of the comedy team Chase and Mitchell including a performance for president John F. Kennedy. He later met his wife Shirley (professional ice skater) while starring in a show together. They settled in Stamford where they opened the Ayers Ice Skating Studios. Following his love for show business and the desire to help artists in their careers the rest of his life was spent as a theatrical manager.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his son, Tom Ayers of Los Angeles, California; his daughter, Audrey Ayers of Orlando, Florida.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at St. John’s Evangelist RC Church, 279 Atlantic Street, Stamford, 06902 at 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made in George’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
