George Maragos

George E. Maragos, 67, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 with his loving family by his side at Stamford Hospital. Born February 7, 1942 in Logastra, Sparta, Greece, he was the son of the late Evangelos and Anna Nikolaros Maragos.
George was a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church and served on the Parish Council for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Maragos of Stamford; a son, Angelo Maragos of Stamford; a daughter, Anna Witkowski and her husband Damian of Darien; beloved grandfather to their children, Nicholas and Alexis. George is also survived by his sisters, Olga Benekos of Stamford; Helen Vaselakos; Despina Angelopoulos of New York; and Georgia Asimakopoulos of Sparta, Greece; and his brothers, Peter Maragos of Darien; and Constantine Maragos of Logastra, Sparta, Greece; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, July 9 from 4:00 �" 8:00 PM with a Trisagian Service being held at 7:00 PM with Rev. Fr. Constantine Mathews. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:45 AM on Friday, July 10 and proceed to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, where a Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
