George Valases

George Valases, 91, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2006 at Stamford Hospital. Born June 15, 1915 in Pellana Sparta, Greece, he was the son of the late Konstantinos and Aspasia Kourkanas Valases.
He was an employee of Connecticut Products Finishing Corp., retiring in 1980. He was also a member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Stamford.
He is survived by his wife, Katherine Valases of Stamford; two daughters, Sia and her husband Konstantinos Bakis of Stamford; and Kalli and her husband Nick Yorgakaros of Orange; a son, Dr. Charles Valases and his wife Mercene of Annandale, VA; and six grandchildren, Evan and Christina Bakis; George and Maria Yorgakapos; and George and Katherine Valases.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, Basilis and Evangelos Valases; and a sister, Kalliopi Maniati.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, at 9:20 AM on Wednesday, October, 4, 2006 and proceed to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM with the Rev. Constantine Mathews officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery, Stamford. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 3, 2006 from 4:00 8:00 PM with a Trisagion Service at 7:00 PM.
