Georgina Aquino, lovingly known as Gina, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at the age of 91 in Lawrenceville, Georgia. Born on March 31, 1934, in San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, she was the beloved daughter of the late Benita Hernandez-Mercado and Jacinto Mercado.

Gina was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Luis C. Aquino, and her beloved son, Gilbert Aquino. She was also one of eleven siblings, all of whom she loved dearly and remembered fondly throughout her life.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Jeannie Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; her grandchildren: Edith Williams (Atlanta, GA), Nicholas Aquino (Stratford, CT), Mark Williams (Ansonia, CT), Justin Aquino (Norwalk, CT) and Gina Williams (Atlanta, GA). She also leaves behind eleven cherished great-grandchildren: Luis Williams, Evette Williams, Irene Williams, Josiah Williams, Haydee Rentas, Peta May Aquino, Nicholas Gilbert Aquino, Elijah Williams, Greyson Williams, Eliana Moss, and Antonio Moss. Gina is also survived by her beloved niece, Miriam Serrano, and many other extended family members and friends who were touched by her life and legacy.

A true fashionista, Gina had a passion for style and creativity. She found joy in crocheting, sewing, and making handmade jewelry—expressing her love through the beautiful things she created. Her personal flair and warm spirit left a lasting impression on everyone she met.

Her strong faith guided her throughout her life. For 15 years, Gina led the Charismatic Prayer Group at Our Lady of Monserrate Catholic Church, offering spiritual leadership and a comforting presence to her community.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gina’s life at 11AM on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, in Stamford, where her wake services will be held.  A funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 1pm for the interment at St. John Cemetery, in Darien.

Georgina "Gina" Aquino will be remembered for her unwavering faith, artistic soul, fierce love for her family, and the warmth she brought into every room. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
