Gerald J. Petrizzi, Jr., 86, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, May 13, 2013 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford on July 27, 1926 to the late Gerald J. and Clara Adaletta Petrizzi, Sr.
Gerald was a WW II veteran, having served in the US Army. He received a Bronze Star and was one of the liberators at the Kaufering Concentration Camp in Lamsburg, Germany. He was a member of the Umbrella Club, an avid golfer and crossword puzzle enthusiast. He was also the former owner of Elmrite Fuel and Cove Awning before his retirement.
He is survived by his loving daughter Geraldine P. Dillon and her husband James of Fairfield, two sons William L. Petrizzi of Trumbull, Gerald M. Petrizzi and his wife Oongh of Stamford and a brother Donald Petrizzi of Stamford and eight grandchildren.
Besides his parents, Gerald was predeceased by his wife Marie Francis Gianfrancisco Petrizzi, a brother Michael Petrizzi and a sister Dolores Petrizzi.
Family and friends may call at The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 4:00-8:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at the funeral home Thursday evening at 6:30 PM. Interment will be held privately.
