Geraldine Gerry Corcoran

Geraldine �"Gerry Corcoran, 82, passed away on Thursday May 11, 2006 at home after a long battle with cancer. A Stamford resident for many years, she was an active and involved member of St. Maurice parish. Born October 7, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of Maurice and Lillian Reid Reardon. Gerry attended St. Michaels school in Brooklyn along with her five siblings. After her graduation from secretarial school she worked for RCA at Rockefeller Center in NYC. In October 1947, she married James A. Corcoran, and moved to Connecticut in 1954.
For two decades, Gerry was the assistant to the principal of St. Basils prep in Stamford. She thrived on the friendship of the faculty and students who often sought out her counsel and support.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Jim Corcoran; three sons, Christopher of Stamford, Timothy and his wife Louise of Norwalk, and Matthew and his wife Rose of Stamford; two daughters, Maureen Darash and her husband Tedd of Port Chester, NY, and Clare Purcell and her husband Tom of Stamford. She was very proud of each and every one of her twenty grandchildren; Ryan, Brendan and Patrick Corcoran; Noreen, Timothy, Kevin, and Cara Corcoran; the Darash family: Christine, James, Kate, Maggie, John, William, Paul and Peter; Emily and Maura Purcell; and Erin, Matthew and Jimmy Corcoran. She is also survived by two brothers, Eugene and Robert Reardon of Long Island, NY; a devoted cousin Vivian Linn of Queens, NY; and a large extended family of nieces and nephews and their families.
She is predeceased by one son, James A. Corcoran, III; her daughter-in-law, Hilda Tooher Corcoran; and four sisters, Marie, Dorothy, Catherine and Vivian.
An avid reader with a beautiful singing voice and a smile for everyone, her optimism, her sense of humor and her deep faith will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Monday May 15, 2006 at St. Maurice RC Church, 358 Glenbrook Road, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. Charles Resurrection Cemetery, Long Island, NY. Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Saturday May 13, 2006 from 3:00 7:00 PM.
