Geraldine M. Morganteen (“Geri”), 64, of Monroe, Connecticut and a former resident of Stamford passed away peacefully on August 14, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 25, 1952 to the late Thomas F. and Teresa McCrossen Roche.
Geri grew up in Staten Island where she was a product of the Catholic school system. Upon graduation from Countess Moore High School, she took her talents and dreams to Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY. On her very first weekend on campus, Geri met the young man with whom she would spend the rest of her life. The city girl and the farm boy celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary on August 12th. Geri graduated cum laude from Marist with a B.A. in History and went on to earn a Master of Public Administration degree from New York University. She began her professional career with the New York City Board of Education, rising to the position of Deputy Executive Director of the Department of Personnel. After a lengthy hiatus to raise her family, she returned to the workforce as Vice President of Human Resources for Citizens Communications (currently Frontier Communications).
Geri is survived by her devoted husband James F. Morganteen of Monroe, her loving children Jeffrey Morganteen and his wife Kate King of New York City and Allison Morganteen of Hoboken, NJ, a sister Barbara Roche and Louis Nieves of Manasquan, NJ, two brothers Thomas Roche and his wife Maureen of Staten Island, NY and Richard Roche and his wife Karen of Mahwah, NJ, as well as eight nieces and nephews.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 9:20 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Bridget of Ireland, 278 Strawberry Hill Avenue, Stamford at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM and on Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5:00-9:00 PM.
The family requests that donations be made in Geri’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, International, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
