Gina (Angie) Simonelli Mucciolo died peacefully at her home in Darien on Monday, October 13, 2008. She was 71 years old. Before she was married, Gina worked at Norma Hoffman and for the Manager of the Radar Department at Norden Systems as an executive secretary. After twenty five years as a stay-at-home mother, she reinvented herself in order to achieve her life-long dream of being an interior designer. She attended classes at Fairfield University, Sacred Heart, and the New York School of Interior Design, and attained an associates level degree in Interior Design. She also earned a license for Interior Design from the state of Connecticut. Upon earning her degree and license, Gina worked as a designer at Ethan Allen in Norwalk, Wayside of Milford, Brunners in Stamford, Hampton Court in Ridgefield, and Fairfield Interiors, before starting her own design consulting business called �"Uniquely Yours Interiors. As a result of her warm personality and dedication to her clients needs, her customers often became her friends. Her interior design for one customers chalet in New Hampshire was featured in a Home Design magazine.
While in Darien, Gina was a member of the Hindley School Parents Association, the Newcomers and Suburbanites clubs, and an active member of St. Johns Parish. In addition to her passion for spending time with family and friends, Gina enjoyed the theater, concerts, dance, and international travel, played tennis regularly, and was known to friends and family alike as an outstanding gourmet cook.
Gina leaves behind her devoted husband of 44 years Jerry of Darien; her son Jeffrey, his wife Helen, and two granddaughters Gabrielle and Julianna of White Plains; her daughter Kathy and her husband Nester Savas of New York; her daughter Laurie and husband Jason Lekberg, also of New York; her sister Elaine Gervasio and her husband Richard of Norwalk; and her brother Raymond Simonelli, Jr, of Norwalk; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins throughout the Fairfield County area. She was predeceased by her parents, Raymond Simonelli, Sr. and Mary DeCamillo Simonelli. A special thanks from the family goes to two wonderful friends, Cookie Martini and Dianne DiNardo, both of Darien, whose care and commitment exhibited the true meaning of friendship during Ginas last 6 months, as well as the caring personnel of the Mid-Fairfield Hospice.
A wake will be held at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, October 15, from 4-8 PM. A Funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 11:20 AM on Thursday, October 16th and proceed to St. Johns Roman Catholic Church, 1986 Post Road, Darien where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery in Darien.
