Giulia Gencarelli

Giulia Gencarelli, 92, passed away peacefully, on July 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, generosity, and devotion to her family.

Born in Luzzi, Cosenza, Italy, to the late Luigi and Rosaria Cofone Gencarelli, Giulia immigrated to the United States in 1970 with her beloved husband, Francesco Gencarelli, in search of a better life for their family. Together they built a home centered on faith, hard work, and unconditional love.

Giulia was predeceased by her devoted husband, Francesco Gencarelli; her sisters, Cristina Conova, Giuseppina Gencarelli, Sister Daria; and her brother, Gennaro Gencarelli.

She is survived by her loving children: Maria and her husband Tony; Joseph and his wife Angela; Sal and his wife Angela; Lou; Rosely and her husband Domenick; and Ralph and his wife Kathy. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Laura, Franco and his wife Kerri, Lisa and her husband Jack, Frank, Anthony, Mike and his wife Alison, Matthew and his wife Eleanne, Cristina, Briana, Benjamin, and Ella; and her adored great-grandchildren: Luke, Alexa, Robert, Olivia, Nicholas, Nathan, Cameron, and Maeve. She is also survived by her sister, Angela Bruno of Italy, and her brother, Francesco Gencarelli of New Jersey, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Aside from her full time job of being a homemaker, upon arriving from Italy to New Jersey Giulia worked at Celentano’s before moving to Darien, Connecticut. She then became a childcare provider, a role that perfectly reflected her nurturing spirit. The families whose children she cared for became lifelong friends, and she remained close with many of those children well into their teenage and adult years. After moving to Stamford, she continued this role, touching countless lives with her kindness, patience, and loving heart.

Giulia found joy in life’s simple blessings. She loved tending to her garden and generously shared its vegetables with neighbors and friends. Her Catholic faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a devoted parishioner who also volunteered at Our Lady of Grace School. She treasured her weekly pizza outings with friends, loved taking walks with her beloved dog, Lilly, and was renowned for her delicious home-cooked meals, especially her unforgettable meatballs, which brought family together around the table.

Above all, Giulia’s greatest joy was her family. She was the rock of the Gencarelli family, always placing the needs of others before her own. She played an instrumental role in raising her grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. Her warmth, wisdom, strength, and unconditional love created a home where everyone felt welcome and cared for.

Her family will remember her gentle smile, unwavering faith, generous heart, and the countless acts of love that defined her life. Though she will be deeply missed, her example of compassion, humility, and devotion will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Saint Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, Connecticut. A procession will follow to St. John’s Mausoleum in Darien, Connecticut, where entombment will take place.
