Grace Montgomery
August 19, 1915 — September 11, 2006
Grace M. Montgomery, 91, passed away on Monday September 11, 2006 at her home in Stamford. Born August 19, 1915 in Rock Island, Illinois, she was the wife of the late William Herbert Montgomery, and a Stamford resident since 1943.
She was a caseworker for the Department of Human Resources with the State of Connecticut and an Adult Education Teacher in Greensboro, NC. She was a graduate from Greensboro College for Women in Greensboro, NC. Grace was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Stamford where she served on the session board for two terms. She received Person of the Year Award for the Council of Churches (now known as Interfaith Council of Southwestern CT). She also, through the years served as a volunteer for many local charities.
She is survived by her two daughters, Ellen Reardon of Stamford; and Janet Bjork of Beverly, Mass; a son, Bruce Herbert Montgomery of Westwood, Mass. Survivors also include a sister, Martha Bierwiler of Winter Park, FL; and eight grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Richard Martin.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday September 15, 2005 at 10:30 AM at First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905 or to V.N.H.C. 1029 East Main Street, Stamford, CT 06902.
