Harry Vakos , 82, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008 surrounded by his family. Born in Ware, MA on April 10, 1926, son of the late Paul and Bessie Pappas Vakos. The family moved to Stamford in 1928 where Harry graduated from Stamford High School and then married and raised his own family.

He worked for the City of Stamford, Board of Education as the head custodian for over thirty five years and St. Leo’s Church for fifteen years.
Harry was a kind and generous man who was loved by all who knew him. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren . He especially loved getting together with family on the holidays and keeping the family traditions. His love for New York sports teams brought him great joy when he could enjoy them in the company of his family. Harry’s loving spirit will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Chrysoula Vakos, his children Bess Morrell and husband Craig, Paul Vakos and fiance’ Rhudean, Sophia Antonucci and husband Ernie, Peter Vakos and wife Bibi. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Nicole, Kristy, Michelle, Steven and Shannon. Survivors also include his brothers John Vakos and wife Toula, George Vakos and Angelo Vakos and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Jimmy Vakos.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, on Monday, August 25 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 26 at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1230 Newfield Ave.,Stamford at 11:00 AM.
Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park in Stamford.
