Heather Deters Bivona, born April 25, 1977 in Caledonia, Minnesota, died Friday, September 21, 2007 at Stamford Hospital of complications from a massive stroke. She was surrounded by loved ones, family and friends. She was a deeply loving and ever-giving soul and she will be greatly missed by all that knew her.
Heather (attended Spring Grove High School) and graduated from Gale Ettrick Trempealeau High School in Galesville, Wisconsin and with exemplary commitment she joined the Marine Corps in 1996. A committed Marine, after recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot , Paris Island, South Carolina she entered military police training school in Huntsville, Alabama. She was stationed at Camp LeJeune working in the Provost Marshalls office before entering Military Working Dog training for the Marine Corps, attending working dog handlers school at Lackland Air Force Base, Heather was deployed to Puerto Rico where she worked with U.S. Customs drug interdiction teams. In 2001 she reenlisted for service with Second Field Service Support Group at Camp LeJeune serving with the Second Military Police Battalion K-9 Section as Kennel Master where she deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, followed by Camp Fox, Kuwait in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom I. Heather served the United States Marine Corps honorably for more than 9 years.
Heather attended Norwalk Community College, pursuing a degree in Exercise Science. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with the class of 2007. She was employed by New York Sports Club on Hope Street in Stamford as a personal trainer. Heather adored her work and her many clients will attest accordingly. She was an avid runner and weight lifter who loved the outdoors and especially loved her dog, Leo.
She is survived by her adoring husband, Greg Bivona of Stamford; mother and father, Mary and Rod Amundson of Spring Grove, Minnesota; father and mother Dennis and Tatiana Deters of Spring Grove, MN; Mother-in-law, Theresa Bivona of Stamford; grandmothers, Alice Deters and Esther �"Gammy Fruechte; siblings, Richard Deters of Arden Hills, Minnesota; Douglas and his wife Jenn Deters of Wasilla, Alaska; Daniel Deters of Mounds view, MN; Friedrich Deters of Goldsboro, North Carolina; Franz Deters of Anchorage, AK; Alexander Deters of Spring Grove, MN; and Christelle Amundson of Winona, MN. In addition, numerous other family and friends also survive.
She is predeceased by grandfathers, Lloyd Deters and Raymond Fruechte.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Monday, September 24, 2007 from 4:00 8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, September 25, 2007at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 286 Delavan Avenue, Greenwich, with Pastor Ron Erbe officiating. Interment will be private.
