Helen M. Battinelli, 87, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Monday, January 12, 2015. She was born in Stamford on May 17, 1927 to the late Frank and Valeria Rekos.
Helen was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, lovingly referred to as Granny. The consummate homemaker, she was known for both her cooking and baking. She was an avid bowler in the 70’s, being on the ladies league at Bowl-a-Rama in Stamford. She was an active member of the Italian Center in its Ladie’s Auxillary and St. Leo’s Parish, of which she was a member of the Ladie’s Auxillary as well as a volunteer for the St. Leo’s Fair, where she was known for making dough for the Pizza Frita booth.Helen was a devoted Catholic having said the rosary each and everyday. But most of all, Helen was known for her sophisticated glamour and always being dressed to the nines.
Helen is survived by her loving children, Carol DeSiato of Stamford, Carl A. Battinelli, Jr. and his wife Sue of Stamford, her sisters Jenny Moavero of Stamford, six grandchildren, Louis DeSiato,III and his wife Dana of Moscow, PA, Christopher DeSiato and his wife Maria of Stamford, Kara, Katelyn, Carl III and Paul Battinelli of Stamford, four great grandchildren Lexi,Dominick, Juliana and Christina DeSiato.Several nieces and nephews also surviving.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Carl A. Battinelli, Sr., a brother Theodore Rekos, her sisters Theresa Telesco and Gladys Telesco and a son in law Louis P. DeSiato, Jr.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 9:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Road, Stamford at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
