Helen DiStefano, 93, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully at Smith House Health Care on Friday, April 17, 2015. She was born in Stamford on March 4, 1922 to the late Joseph and Rose Creszenso Gallo.
Helen was a co-owner of Syhe Shop of Stamford were she was a talented seamstress for many years and was also employed at the Omega Engineering. Besides her many talents, Helen was an amazing mother and grandmother who always put her family first.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Robin Russo and her husband John of Stamford, Tammy Montanaro and her husband Paul of Stamford , six grandchildren, Dante Pomponi, Scott Kowaleski, Emily Johnson-Russo, Sara Russo, Jessica Potolicchio, Daniel Montanaro and a great grandson Joseph Potolicchio.
Besides her parents, Helen was predeceased by her husband Fred DiStefano, a daughter Cynthia DiStefano, three brothers Joseph, Sam and Al Gallo and a sister Mary G. Sessa.
A prayer service will be celebrated on Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 10:00 Am at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
