Helen Deykes Weinschenk, died on December 22, 2016 at the age of 87. She was married for 55 years to her husband, George, who predeceased her in 2011. Helen was a life long resident of Dunmore, PA. She spent the last four years in CT, close to family members.
Helen was a graduate of Dunmore High School and Keystone College. She was previously employed by Super Market Service as Personnel Manager, American Can Company, and Eureka Specialty Printing Company. She was very active in the community including volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, St Luke’s Church, The Lackawanna Blind Association, Safety Net, The Anthracite Heritage Museum, and many more.
She is survived by her three daughters; Cheryl Freye and her husband Ken in Winthrop, ME, Barbara Weinschenk in Stamford, CT, and Susan Rutz and her husband Tom in Stamford, CT, as well as her grandchildren Justin Freye and his wife Jennifer, Andrew Freye and his wife Hattie, Claire and Mollie Rutz. She is also survived by her sister Edna Lesh, and her brother John Deykes and his wife Eleanor, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends at St Luke’s Episcopal Church, 232 Wyoming Avenue, Scranton, PA on Friday December 30 at 1:00 pm with a funeral service and interment at 2:00 pm. We give our greatest gratitude to all those who helped care for Helen in recent years.
