Helmut Werner Herr, 78, a longtime resident of Stamford passed away suddenly, in his home on
Wednesday, April 18, 2018.
Helmut was born on June 7, 1939, in the Black Forest region of southwest Germany. He was the
son of the late Elsa Vogelbacher-Herr and the late Alfred Herr, both of Faulenfürst, Germany.
He was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters.
Helmut is survived by his beloved and devoted wife Sara L. Herr of Stamford, his daughter
Yolanda S. Herr and her husband Michael P. Cacciotti, of Stamford. His son, Dietmar Stich-
Waldvogel and his wife Ines Waldvogel, of Lenzkirch, Germany. Helmut is also survived by his
cherished grandchildren Gary O. Benson, III, Dylan N. Benson, Maximus V.C. Cacciotti and
Sinah and Janice Waldvogel.
Helmut attended trade school in Germany to become a butcher and migrated to the United States
in the late 1950’s. He always said, “money is just lying on the streets in America”. Helmut
enjoyed gardening and worked with a passion to provide for his family. He worked as a butcher
for Hartford Provision, Atlantic Meat Market, Grand Union, Finast, Berman-Klein, City Line
Distributors and Stop & Shop. Helmut enjoyed dabbling in the Stock Market and gardening. He
was known for cultivating the best soil and growing the finest tomatoes.
Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle
Ave., Stamford, CT on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Interment will be held privately.
