Henry J. Honcz, a resident of Stamford for over 60 years, died on December 7, 2008 at the Nathaniel Witherell Nursing Home in Greenwich. He was 81 years old. Born April 6, 1927 in Mt. Carmel, PA, he was the son of the late Matthew and Caroline Kowal Honcz.
He graduated from the Mt. Carmel Schools and Bridgeport University. He was a veteran of the US Navy having served in WWII. He retired from Pitney Bowes after more than 30 years as Manager of Quality Control in Stamford and served as a consultant in England. He was a member of Pitney Bowes Oval Club and the Golden Oldies.
He was a life member of the Moose Club where he served as Governor for four years. He was co-chair of Cove/East Side Neighborhood Coalition and her received special recognition from the Connecticut General Assembly for his work with that association. Through his dedication and energy to those organizations there were many achievements, particularly to the community and A.R.I. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Communicate of Holy Name of Jesus RC Church in Stamford.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Ruth Ann; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Louise Esposito Delaventura in 1983; a sister, Mary Wydan; six brothers: Joseph, Frank, Walter, Stanley, Martin Sondej, and John Sonday; and two nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Name of Jesus RC Church, 325 Washington, Blvd, Stamford, on Saturday, December 27 at 12 noon. Interment will be private. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations are made in Henrys name to the Alzheimer Association, 10 Wall Street, Norwalk, CT 06850. Arrangements are being handled by the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford.
