Herbert F. Weiss, Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, July 4th. He was 80 years old. Herb was born in Stamford on August 7, 1930, to Mary Henchar Weiss and Herbert F. Weiss, Sr. A native of Stamford from Avery Street in the Cove, “Herbie” graduated from Stamford High School in 1949 where he played soccer and intramural basketball. After graduating from high school, he attended The School of Aeronautics in Teterboro, NJ before enlisting in the United States Air Force in 1950. He served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge as an Airman First Class “AIC” in 1954. In 1957, Herb married Maureen Laureno and moved to their Springdale home where he resided for the rest of his life. During Herb’s career as an aircraft and auto mechanic, he worked for Metro North, Westchester County Airport and he with his father also ran the Tokeneke Road Mobile Service Station in Rowayton for many years. During his younger years, Herb enjoyed boating, fishing and swimming on Long Island sound as well as walking at Cove beach. He will be missed by all his family and friends. Herb was a member of St. Cecilia‘s Church.
Herb was survived by his three children, Stephen Weiss and wife Beth-Ann of Canterbury, CT, Marilyn and husband Edouard Vieux of Danbury, Cynthia and husband Jim Trefry of Stamford, five grandchildren, Maureen Weiss, Erik and Jenna Vieux and Jack and Hannah Trefry. Brother-in-law, Michael Laureno, Jr., of Simsbury, Laurence and wife Mary Laureno of East Granby, sister-in-law Elaine Laureno Evans of Miami, FL and 10 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Herb was predeceased by his wife Maureen Laureno Weiss, sister, Marion Weiss Harrington, brother-in-law, James Harrington and sister-in-law Geri Ballo Laureno.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia RC Church at 1184 Newfield Ave, Stamford, CT on Friday July 8, 2011 at 10:00 AM,
