Herman D. Gladstone, 86, a life long resident of Stamford, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2006 at the Tandet Center after a long illness. Born on April 13, 1920, he was the son of the late Isaac and Celia Silverman Gladstone.

Herman was a truck driver for fifty years with Adley Express Co. and Quinn Freight lines, before his retirement in 1980. He was a Veteran of the US Army having served in WWII in the 773rd TD Battalion in General Patton’s 3rd Army during the Battle of the Bulge and other campaigns. While serving his country with the US Army as a Technician Fifth Grade, he received six decorations and citations which include: Bronze Star Medal; American Service Medal; Distinguished Unit Badge; European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and Croix De Guerra with Palm. He was also a member of the Teamsters Local 191 for over forty years and active in local sports.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Evanchik Gladstone of Stamford; three daughters, Diane and her husband Andrew Moore of St. Augustine, FL; Sandra N. and her husband Bob Russo of South Salem, NY; and Celia M. Rasines and her long time companion Pat R. Uva, Sr. of Stamford; a son, Daniel Paul Gladstone of Stamford; a sister, Katherine Askew of Stamford. Six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five step great- grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by eight sisters, Lillian Reteare; Yetta DiSesa; Esther Baron; Bertha Farkas; Ruth Gladstone; Fanny Gladstone; Sally Modugno; and Blossom Street; and four brothers, Louis, Aaron, Sam and Frank Gladstone.

A service will be held at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Monday, November 20, 2006 at 11:00 AM with the Reverend David Lothrop officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery in Stamford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, November 19, 2006 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM.
