Anthony “Tony” Pomponi, 83, of Darien passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 23, 2016. He was born in Stamford on August 17, 1933 to the late Stefano and Rosalinda Silvestri Pomponi.
Tony attended Stamford Schools and graduated from J.M. Wright Technical HS in 1952. He worked as an electrician for Jansco Electric in Stamford for many years. Tony was an avid skier and boater and spent many hours on the water and mountains. In his later years, he enjoyed his time on the golf course with his golfing buddies. One of his greatest joys was being surrounded by his children and grandchildren
Tony is survived by his devoted wife Eileen Burke Pomponi of Darien, his loving children Stephen Pomponi and his wife Amy of Darien and their children, Clair, Grace and Claudia; Susan Schwarz and her husband David of Boca Raton, FL and their children, Matthew and Caroline; Christopher Pomponi of Darien; Jeffrey Pomponi and his wife Bonnie of Norwalk and their children, Maxwell and Jake; as well as his brother Sal Pomponi and his wife Alma of Bedford, MA. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Tony was predeceased by his siblings Larry Pomponi, Lydia Lodato and Roman Pomponi.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 10:30 AM at St. Thomas More RC Church, 374 Middlesex Road, Darien. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery, Rockrimmon Road, Stamford. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, November 28, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM with St. Ann’s Club of Norwalk meeting at the funeral home at 7:00 PM.
