Jacob “Jack” Dazzo, 70, passed away after a courageous battle, with his family by his side, on Sunday, November 1, 2009 at Stamford Hospital. Born June 23, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late William and Anna Janas Dazzo. He was a friend to all that knew him.
A graduate of Chelsea Vocational High School in New York City, he became a Finish Carpenter. Having worked for DeLuca Construction, F.D. Rich Company, and Frank Mercedes & Sons throughout the 1960’s, one of his many accomplishments included being one of three men chosen to receive the cross by helicopter that crowns the bell tower of The First Presbyterian Church of Stamford (the fish church).
He then owned and operated Dazzo Maintenance throughout the 1960’s to 1980’s, later owning and operating Greystone Properties Real Estate from 1985 to 1991. Currently a commercial real estate broker for Coldwell Banker Real Estate, until his passing.
Jack was always involved with his children’s activities, including coaching baseball, softball and soccer and a member of the Good Times Golf League.
As an active member of St. Leo’s Parish of Stamford, he was a Special Minister and a Youth Group Adult Member, training youth members for the Appalachian Project, which aided families with repairs to their homes. He also went on Youth Group Retreats. Jack was especially known as the original St. Leo’s Fair Beer Booth Manager.
Jack co-chaired Alzheimer disease fundraisers, namely for the Angels of Alzheimer’s Committee. He was also involved in the local politics of Stamford.
He is survived by his wife Angel Dazzo of Stamford; a son Billy Dazzo and his wife Lisa, and their children, Michael Jacob and Lydia, of Redding. His daughter Lauren Abate and her husband Anthony, and their children, Anthony Jr., Julia, and Lindsay of Seymour. Also leaving behind loving sisters and brothers’ in law, and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and a sister, all of Brooklyn, NY.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Tuesday, November 3 from 3:00 �" 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, November 4 and proceed to St. Leo’s Parish, 24 Roxbury Rd., Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM. Interment at St. Johns RC Cemetery, Darien, will be private.
