James “Shumps” Condito, 95, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford on February 4, 1919 to the late Giuseppe and Lucia Lando Condito.
He was a Foreman with the Sanitation Department for the City of Stamford for over fifty years, before retiring at the age of 76 in 1996. Shumps’ priority was his family and work. He loved being at the beach, having a beer and a lobster roll while vacationing in Cape Cod. He was a true sportsman having played Buca Bingo. Being a food connoisseur, he treated eating as a hobby. He also enjoyed watching professional boxing and wrestling.
James is survived by his loving daughters, Lucille Taylor, Colleen Condito both of Stamford and Alicia Condito- Brandfellner (Scott) of Norwalk, grandchildren Dawn Taylor-Marzella (Jeremy), James Taylor (Nicole),Lindsey Taylor-Johnson (Carl), Scott Brandfellner, Jr. and Grayson James Brandfellner; three great grandchildren, Christian, Carson and Ty. Many nieces and nephews also survive, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, James was predeceased by his wife Ann Catino Condito in 1994, his siblings Mary Loglisci, Vera Raino, Gracie Rainone, Joseph Condito, Albert Condito, Fannie Mancini, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at 9:15 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Entombment will follow at St. John’s Mausoleum, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, November 21, 2014 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in James’ memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101
