James F. Forde, 80, passed away peacefully at the Richard Rosenthal Hospice Residence on Monday, July 13, 2009. Born in Hollymount, Co. Mayo Ireland on July 15, 1928, he was the son of the late Edward and Ellen Forde. James was a longtime resident of Yonkers, NY and more recently, Stamford, CT.
James was a mechanic of 37 years for Con Edison and worked in the gas operations department in Rye, NY. He was an avid fisherman and enthusiast of all things Irish. He frequently returned to Ireland to his summer cottage to spend time with his close knit extended family in the Heath Scardaune.
He is survived by two children: James J. Forde and his wife Debbie; and John Edward Forde of Stamford; two grandchildren: James H. and Jacqueline Forde; and three sisters: Nonie O’Toole (Seamus); Bobby Colleran (Paddy) both of County Mayo Ireland; and Nell Dillon of County Galway Ireland. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, James was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Begley Forde; his sister, Mary Leach; and his brothers, Pake and Thomas Forde.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, July 16 from 4:00 �" 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:20 AM on Friday, July 17 and proceed to First Presbyterian Church of Stamford, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM with Rev. David Van Dyke officiating. Interment will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.
