James G. (Chief) Iorio, 89, of Greenwich, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on March 30, 1920 he was the son of the late Otino and Rose Lobretta Iorio.
James served as a Journalist in the Army and graduated from New York University with a degree in education. He was a businessman for many years and was involved in various projects. James was a devoted Eucharistic Minister at St. Michael’s Church in Greenwich, where he served last Father’s Day, the day before entering the hospital.
James is survived by his five children, James P. Iorio (Diana Nguyen), Rosemarie Iorio, Charles Iorio, Tino Iorio (Elisabeth), and Joanne Iorio; grandchildren, James George Iorio II (Jay), David, Markus, Josephine, Andrea Iorio, T.J. Goforth, Andrew, Daniel Iorio and Andrew Do; great-grandchildren, James George III (JJ), Thomas Charles (Tommy) Iorio, Michelle and Anthony Rodriguez.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Josephine of 27 years; his second wife Elisabeth of 8 years; brothers, Anthony, Otino, and John; and his sister Phyllis.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, on Tuesday, July 14 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael’s RC Church, 469 North Street, Greenwich, on Wednesday, July 15 at 11:00 AM, with the Rev. Thomas Thorne officiating. Entombment will follow at St. Mary’s RC Cemetery, North Street, Greenwich.
