James J. Malafarina, 80, passed away Monday, November 2, 2009, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was born on May 8, 1929, in Cos Cob, Connecticut, moving to Stamford in his early teens where he lived until moving to Florida in 1993. He was the son of the late Joseph and Maria Concetta Romeo Malafarina. He was an avid golfer and bowler, having managed Ten Pin Bowling Alleys for many years. He served in the U.S. Army Engineering Corps. during the Korean War. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service and owned and operated Bel Aire Cleaners in Stamford. He also worked for the Lazard Freres Investment Company in New York City before retiring. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy Williams Malafarina. He is survived by his wife Lorraine Malafarina of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; two daughters, Dottie DiBattista and her husband Bob; and Barbara Malafarina-Brackett; a sister, Mary Malafarina. He is also survived by granddaughters, Dana Foley and Brittany Brandi; grandsons, Michael Foley and Nicholas DiBattista; and great-grandsons, Michael and Justin Foley, all of Stamford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 21, 2009 at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greenwich, CT.
