James Frank Melsenti, 85, of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Greenwich on September 22, 1930 to the late Joseph James and Rose Fego Melsenti.
Jimmy started his career as a machinist at Conde Naste in 1945 in Greenwich. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952 and attained the rank of Corporal. While in the Marine Corps Jimmy served as a drill sergeant instructing recruits in military discipline. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps in 1954 and returned to Greenwich and learned the carpet installation business. In 1967, Jimmy opened and ran his own carpeting business, Post Carpets, in Cos Cob, CT. In the 1970’s, the business moved to High Ridge Road, Stamford as Post Carpets Crafts.
Jimmy enjoyed playing golf and loved spending time with his grandchildren and his great grandson. His family will remember his smile and great sense of humor (“that’s the ticket” and “that’s you babe”). He will be laid to rest next to his late beloved wife, Jeanette.
He is survived by his loving children Mark A. Melsenti and his wife Catherine Thorpe, Ginamarie Melsenti Compolattaro both of Stamford, as well as his grandchildren Max Melsenti and his wife Kristyn, Luke Melsenti, Benjamin Melsenti, Kaitlin Melsenti, Bridget Melsenti, Shelby Compolattaro, Patricia Reville, Margaret Reville and Grace Reville and a great grandson Joseph Robert Melsenti. Also surviving is his sister Mary Pastore of Greenwich.
Besides his parents, Jimmy was predeceased by his wife Jeanette Marie DeCamillo Melsenti, in 2008, a son Joseph James Melsenti, in 2001 and his siblings Annie Chiappetta, Charles Melsenti, Gloria Curto and Comfort Stroli.
A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00AM at St. Gabriel’s Parish, 914 Newfield Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, November 28, 2015. Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Friday, November 27, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00PM. Interment will take place at Queen of Peace Cemetery privately.
