James “Jimmy”J. Nestor, 88, a lifelong resident of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Stamford Hospital. He was born in Stamford on October 27, 1927 to the late Lawrence and Kathleen Heffernan Nestor.
Jimmy was a WWII veteran ,having served in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus Fr. Miller Counsel and was one of the founders of Springdale VFW Post 9617 and past Commander. He was also the former Chief and Assistant Chief of the Springdale Fire Co. and was extremely active in the Stamford community. Jimmy was a Automobile Insurance Adjuster for many years before his retirement in 1993.
He is survived by his devoted wife Dorothy Farrell Nestor of Stamford, two loving daughters Maureen Donelson and her husband A.J of Fairfax, VA, Patricia Nestor of Stamford, four loving sons James J. Nestor, Jr. and his wife Maureen, John F. Nestor, Joseph P. Nestor and Thomas G. Nestor and his wife Ashlee, all of Stamford, as well as a brother Lawrence Nestor and his wife Joan of Canaan, CT seven grandchildren Marisa and Andrew Donelson, Kelly, Kimberly, Aidan, Declan and Ronan Nestor. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides his parents, Jimmy was also predeceased by his sister Kathleen Nestor.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at the Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, January 11, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
