Janice Green, long time Stamford resident, realtor and church deacon, passed away June 19, 2008 at the age of 75 due to complications arising from cancer. She passed away with her loved ones at her bedside.
Born Janice Ann Johnson in 1932 in the small farming community of Sherrard, IL, she was the daughter of Raymond and Ardis Johnson. Jan attended Augustana College before going to work for IBM in Chicago. While there, she met her future husband, Otis Green, and the two were married on May 24th, 1958. Shortly thereafter, they moved to New York City where Jan continued to work for IBM. In the spring of 1964, they moved to Stamford to accommodate their growing family that included sons Jim and Tom. Immediately thereafter, as was her nature, Jan became actively involved in church and school activities.
In 1977, Jan began her 31 year career in Real Estate at William Pitt, where she remained until this year. As a realtor, she was consistently awarded the highest category of honors, The Gold Superstar. Jan also managed both the Downtown and Parkway offices of William Pitt in Stamford, and received the "Manager of the Year award for top producing office throughout Fairfield County. As much as she enjoyed selling, her greatest satisfaction came from training new realtors and watching them develop into top brokers throughout the city.
As a member of the First Presbyterian Church, she was active in all church events and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand wherever necessary. Jan was elected to the Board of Deacons several times throughout the years.
She is survived by her husband, Otis Green; her two sisters, Nancy Lorine of Decatur, AL and Elaine Widener of Moline, IL; her two sons, James Green and Thomas Green, both of Stamford; her daughter-in-laws, Marion Green and Susan Green; and 5 grandchildren, Nicole, Lindsay, Emily, Megan and Ross Green.
A Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 22nd from 2-4pm at the First Presbyterian Church, 1101 Bedford Street, Stamford, CT 06905. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, June 23rd at 1pm at the First Presbyterian Church, with a reception following.
