Jaspal Singh Mayell, 89, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 in Stamford, Connecticut.
Jaspal was born on January 1, 1929 in Sialkot, India, son of the late Moti Singh and Harbans Kaur Mayell.
Jaspal came to the United States in 1957 to get his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the University of Texas. He moved to Stamford in 1961 and resided there for the last fifty-seven years. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and led the way for many other of his and his wife’s family members to join him in this country. He loved playing tennis and published scholarly books on the Sikh religion and Punjabi culture. He was active in numerous community organizations including the Indo-American Club, the Sikh Cultural Society, and the Senior Men’s Association of Stamford and organized several senior tennis tournaments in Stamford.
Jaspal is survived by his devoted wife of over 62 years Parkash (Kapoor) Mayell of Stamford, their loving children Manvin and his wife Anoo Mayell of Rye Brook, New York, and daughter Nita Sabo and her husband Chris of Westport, Connecticut. His three brothers Kultar, Mohinder, and Satvinder Mayell also survive him as do his cherished grandchildren Dylan Sabo, Zephan Mayell, Spencer Sabo and Rohan Mayell.
Besides his parents he is predeceased by a brother, Hardip Mayell.
A memorial celebration in honor of Mr. Jaspal Singh Mayell will be held on Saturday, June 9th, 2018, at the Guru Tegh Bahudar Ji Gurudwara, 622 West Ave., Norwalk, Connecticut from 5 to 7 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made is Jaspal’s memory to Alzheimer Foundation of America.
