Jean (Welsh) Siecienski, our beloved and adored beautiful mother, passed away peacefully on October 14, 2026 at the age of 87.

Jean was born in the Village of Spean Bridge in the Scottish Highlands to Henri & Catherine Welsh. Growing up, she ran up and down Ben Nevis with her brother, Matthew—it was a part of life. To put it in her words: “I was the fastest in the village. I never walked, I always ran.”

After attending Culinary University, she left Scotland at the tender age of 18 to fulfill her dream of going to America. She embraced an entirely different culture and a new way of life. Making friends, new experiences, and learning how to drive—this new world was right for her.

Attending weekend dances was the norm in that era and it’s there that she met her future husband, Stanley. They were married in 1963, and thereafter, Jean and Stan started their family by welcoming two daughters. As a working mother of two, Jean worked at GE, Superior Drug, Carol Wright, The History Book Club, and The Walstrom Group.

Stan and Jean’s love of the outdoors afforded many summer family adventures taking them up and down the East Coast, eventually settling in the Westerly, Rhode Island area in the late 1970’s to became their annual summer getaway. Clamming, scalloping, fishing, and the wonderful beaches filled with life’s simple pleasures, helped create memories for family and friends that lasted a lifetime.

In the later years, becoming a grandmother to her four wonderful grandchildren rekindled a new sense of purpose for Jean. She was so very involved in all aspects of their lives from day one, and they loved her so very much. You would likely see her throughout Fairfield County at various baseball, softball, football, basketball, and volleyball games or visiting family in Massachusetts enjoying ice cream and a game of cribbage.

She was an excellent cook and baker. Her Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding was most definitely Michelin-rated in our book. She was an avid knitter, crocheter, crossword puzzle queen, and a lover of reading. She enjoyed her beautiful garden with this most ornate flowers that brought her joy year after year.

Jean is survived by her daughters Sandra (Harry) Mattioli and Betty (Ralph) Barrows. Grandchildren Mitch (Becca), Gloria and Matthew; Kayla (Andrew); and Great-Grandchildren Willow and Glenn; nephew Anthony Welsh and niece Jane Welsh; and the entire Mattioli family that became part of her family through the years. In addition to her parents and husband Jean was predeceased in death by her brother Matthew and sister-in-law Mamie.

The family would like to thank the wonderful care-team at Benchmark on “3” for the love and support that they provided to Jean. You were our family and we love you!
