Jerry Sessa, 84, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 26, 2008. Born March 11, 1924 in Stamford, he was the son of the late Antonio and Concetta DiSanto Sessa.

Jerry graduated from both Stamford High School and J.M. Wright Technical School and was a sheet metal mechanic until his retirement in 1987, belonging to the SMWIA – Local 38 CT for over 60 years.

He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII from April 1943 to October 1945. He served as a rifleman in the 3rd Division Infantry, and fought overseas for 24 months in five campaigns – Rome Arno, Naples-Foggia, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Besides several badges and decorations, he received the Silver Star for Gallantry in Action and the Purple Heart.

He was a past member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a member of the VFW, the Order of the Purple Heart, the Society of the 3rd Infantry Division, the Retirement Club of the SMWIA, and a charter member of the WWII Memorial Foundation and was highly involved with the annual benefit fundraiser �"A New Dawn with St. Jude”. He volunteered in various ways during several political campaigns and elections up to the present. Jerry was an active member of the Church of the Holy Spirit and supported numerous charitable and religious organizations.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Anne Lopiano Sessa of Stamford; his devoted son, Dr. Carl G. Sessa; a sister, Adeline Sessa Mallozzi of Stamford; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony (Tony) Sessa and Silvio Sessa; and a sister, Mary Sessa DellaCorte.

Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Thursday, October 2 from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 9:40 AM on Friday, October 3 and proceed to Church of the Holy Spirit, 403 Scofieldtown Road, Stamford where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery in Darien.
