Joan M. Horton, 83, a former resident of Stamford passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Waterbury. Born on March 18, 1929 in Bridgeport to the late Charles and Mildred Provost McElroy.
Joan was a graduate of Stamford High School, Class of 1947 and was employed as a Bookkeeper working at Karps Hardware ,Georgia Pacific Co. and Burndy’s
She is survived by her loving daughters, Patricia L. Horton of Seymour, CT, Susan H. Russo and her husband Anthony of Oxford, CT, two grandchildren Gregory and Jennifer Russell and a sister Betty Reilly.
A funeral procession will be leaving The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 at 11:20 AM on Thursday, May 10, 2012 for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12 noon at Church of St. Cecilia, 1184 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joan’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, CT Chapter, 2075 Silas Deane Highway, Suite 100, Rocky Hill, CT 06067
