Joan O'Meara

Joan O’Meara, 94, a lifelong Stamford resident, passed away peacefully at her home, on Friday December 26, 2025 surrounded by her loving family. Joan was born in Stamford on January 14, 1931 to the late George H. and Lilian Coulson Burns.

Having grown up in Shippan, Joan loved the beach and enjoyed spending time in Wildwood, NJ. She attended many baseball games, involving her six boys. Joan loved to cook Sunday dinner for her entire family, which was always served at 2:30 PM. In the 1980’s Joan worked for Stamford Hygenic but her passion was her family, spending most of her time caring for them as a homemaker.

Joan is survived by her children; Denise D’Acunto, Brian, Edward and his wife Debbie and Kevin, her daughters-in-law Kim Buzzeo O ‘Meara and Diana Williams O’ Meara. Her twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews also survive.

Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Robert D. O’Meara three children, James, John and Robert O'Meara, her brother Charles “C.A” Burns, her sister Elaine Fisher, her daughter-in-law Jennifer Parana O’Meara and her son-in-law Frank D’Acunto.

A graveside service will take place on Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the family with the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joan’s memory to a charity of one’s choice.
