Johanna J. Smith

Johanna J. Smith, 96, of Stamford, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. Johanna was born in the Bronx, NY on April 28, 1930 to the late Salvatore and Maria Minore Spinnato. Johanna, affectionately known as, “Jane” to family and friends, met and married Joseph L. Smith in 1952. They had three children. She was working at Texas Gulf in NY and moved to Connecticut when the company moved here. Her last job was with Greenwich Country Club, when she finally retired. She enjoyed watching golf on television, was an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed seeing her grandchildren grow up.

Jane is survived by her son, Lawrence D. Smith, daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and Brian Dingivan, granddaughter, Christine and husband, Sam Thuot and granddaughter, Katherine Dingivan and great-grandchild, Adelyn Thuot; her son Stephen Smith and daughter-in-law Lori Smith, grandson, Michael Smith and wife Kate Smith and granddaughter, Danielle Smith.

Besides her parents, Jane was predeceased by Joseph L. Smith, and her four sisters, Josephine Romano, Agatha Caselli, Sara Zatyko and Frances Nardi.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A prayer service will take place at 3:30 PM. Interment will be private.
