John P. Avalone, 68, of Stamford passed away on the Golf course, doing what he loved on Thursday, October 6, 2016. He was born in Stamford on September 16,1948 to John Avalon and the late Joann Bruno Avalon.
John was an employee of ShopRite for many years and an avid golfer and a Yankee fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St Augustine Council #41 and also a member of the Good Time Golf League.
John is survived by his devoted wife Joann J. Santasiero Avalone of Stamford, his loving daughter April Palma and her husband Julio of Stamford, his father John Avalone and his sister Nancy Avalone both of FL, as well as a sister in law Jennie Kemp,a brother in law Joseph Santasiero and his wife Sarah of Stamford , his mother in law Angie Santasiero and two grandsons Brandon and Chase Palma.
Besides his mother, Joann Bruno Avalon, John was also predeceased by his sisters Claire Santaguida and his sister Judy and his brother Jimmy Avalone, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford. Interment will be private. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in John’s memory to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Drive, Wallingford, CT 06492
