John F. Butler, 90, of Stamford, died Monday, October 30, 2006 at St. Joseph Manner in Trumbull. Born in Bansha Tipperary Ireland on May 18, 1916, he was the youngest son seven children to the late Jeremiah and Nora Roache Butler.
Mr. Butler emigrated from Ireland in 1952 to Stamford, where he met his wife Bridget. He was the former president of the Stamford Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), and was also the previous Local and State President and the National Director of the AOH. He hosted WSTCs Irish music our in the early 1970s. Mr. Butler worked for Pitney Bowes as an Inventory Manager for twenty-eight years and then retired to his home in Shippan. He was an active member and Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church. He was also a member of the Pitney Bowes Oval Club and the Pitney Bowes Foremen Club.
He is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Bridget; a daughter, Mary B. Harris and her husband Fred of Trumbull; and two sons, Sean T. Butler and his wife Deborah of Norwalk; and Thomas J. Butler and his wife Amy of Chicago, IL. Mr. Butler is also survived by his seven grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Michael, Jenifer, Ryan, Sean and Bobby, who will miss grandfathers laughter and Irish smile.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his eldest son, Jeremiah C. Butler, who passed away on September 23, 1980; four bothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, on Friday, November 3, 2006 from 4:00 8:00 PM. A funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home at 11:20 AM on Saturday, November 4, 2006 and proceed to Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 1200 Shippan Avenue, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 noon. Interment will follow at St. Johns Cemetery, Darien.
