John T. D’Agostino, passed away on June 14, 2016 at the rich age of 90. John was born on January 8, 1926 in Stamford to the late Dominic and Ermenia Colabella D’Agostino.
John served on the Council of Personal Relations (CPR) representing the employees of Pitney Bowes for forty-six years before his retirement in 1989. A veteran of the US Navy, he served in World War II as a signal man aboard a P.T. Boat. John was dedicated to his family, grandchildren, friends and church. He was a gifted athlete, participating and enjoying all sports, especially, golf, bowling, softball, ping-pong and poker (it was a sport to him!). He served Sacred Heart Church as a lector and volunteer for over twenty years. He was a past President, Secretary and “resident cook” for the Holy Name Society.
John is loved and survived by his wife Toni M. Palladino D’Agostino of sixty-seven years this past June 11, two daughters; Janice Olson of Greenville, SC and Denise Festa of Rockville Centre of NY, as well as, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, John is predeceased by his brothers, Michael and Luke and sisters, Maggie and Antoinette (“Eight and 1/2”).
A funeral procession will leave the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT on Saturday June 18, 2016 at 9:40AM and proceed to Sacred Heart RC Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday June 17, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00PM, as well as Saturday June 18, 2016 from 9:00AM.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in John’s memory to either St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to Sacred Heart Church, 37 Schuyler Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902.
