John Guerrlich,87, a life-long resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on Saturday, December 17, 2016. He was born in Elizabeth, NJ on July 16, 1929 to the late Francis and Gladys Pollion Guerrlich.
John attended Stamford schools and graduated from Stamford High School class of 1947. He served in the Army, spending time stationed in Japan. He was employed as a Purchaser at Machlette Laboratories for many years before his retirement. John later spent time working at the YMCA in Norwalk. He was very involved with the Boy Scouts, having been a Sea Scout himself as a boy, and served as Scout Leader for St. Mary’s Troop 30 and St. Gabriel's Troop for twenty + years.
John met the love of his life, Alice Stadel, in dancing class at the Stamford Yacht Club at the age of twelve,they married in 1953 and never looked back. Together they shared a rare and beautiful partnership of 75 years at each other’s side raising five children in the St. Gabriel’s Parish. They enjoyed singing together in the choir, both at St. Mary's and St. Gabriel's. For the past thirty eight years they traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Stadel Guerrlich, his loving children, Alice Chapell and her husband Rob, John Guerrlich and his wife Robin Rachford, Anne Napolitano and her husband Rick, Peter Guerrlich, and Mary Ellen Guerrlich, as well as his eight grandchildren; James McKee and his wife Sandra, David Mckee, Kevin McKee, Kelly Baldino and her husband Anthony, Brian Chapell, Jordan and Zack Napolitano, and Josh Guerrlich, and four great grandchildren; Emma McKee, Anthony Baldino, Jack Baldino, and Sophie McKee.

Family and friends may call at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 4:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 9:00 AM at St. Gabriel Church, 914 Newfield Avenue, Stamford. Interment will be held privately at a later date.
