Kane, John V. 80, a lifelong resident of Stamford, passed away peacefully, on Saturday, January 28, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Stamford on October 16, 1936 to John V. and Catherine Kane. John graduated from St. Basils Prep and Graduated from the University of Bridgeport.
John was the President of the Southern Fairfield County Retired Teachers Association, President of the Stamford Education Association and led the first strike for teacher contracts.
He also ran the "Has Beens" for the senior golf tournament. John was a member of many associations including the Knights of Columbus, Soundwaters, Stamford Historical Society,
John was married to his high school sweetheart, Ann Walsh in 1958. The couple celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary in June.
John and Ann raised their four children, Karen, Robert, Susanne, and Kevin. John and Ann loved to travel in Europe and the United States. John was an avid golfer and had a gift for gardening. HIs love of history, especially the history of Stamford was shared with friends and family.
John is survived by his wife Ann, his four children Karen (Rich) O'Neill, Robert (Tracy) Kane, Susanne (George) Boccuzzi, Kevin ( Mary) Kane, his sister Louise (Ken) Hitchcock, eight grandchildren Chris (Jennifer) O'Neill, Brian (Amanda) O'Neill, Daniel Boccuzzi, Shannon, Kristen, Lauren, Erin, Kelly Kane, and one great grandchild Harper O'Neill.
John is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was a Stamford public school teacher and administrator for 35 years. He made an impact on everyone he met. His kind spirit, sense of justice, and love of life will be missed by all who knew him.
Our lives are better because we were a part of his.

Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Ave., Stamford, CT on Wednesday, February 1st, 2017 from 4:00PM-8:00PM, a funeral procession will be leaving the funeral home on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 9:30AM and process to Our Lady Star of The Sea RC Church, 1200 Shippan Ave, Stamford, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM Interment will follow at Farifield Memorial Park Cemetery, Stamford.
