John E. Knapp, Jr., born August 25, 1953, passed away suddenly on February 13, 2014 at Regency Heights Care Center, Stamford.
John’s passions included motorcycles, racing and car shows. In 1978-79 he was part of the race crew for Arthur Knapp in Danbury and Watertown race tracks. He regularly raced at Englishtown, NJ in the early eighties to compete on his own and won various trophies. His other love was attending car shows. In recent years, he owned a 1980 Black Impala and won 5 trophies for best looking classic car in local shows.
He is predeceased by his father, John E. Knapp, Sr. and his mother, Anna Marro Knapp. He survived by his two children, Rosemary Knapp and John E. Knapp III; grandchildren Christian, Jazlynn and Leland; a brother George T. Knapp and his wife, Christine of Darien and a sister Debra A. Knapp of Stamford. In addition, a niece Kellie and a nephew Kevin, as well as his Aunt Ellie Palmer of Cedar City, UT and his Uncle Frank Marro of Stamford and several cousins also survive.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Benedict’s RC Church, 1 St. Benedict Circle, Stamford on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:30 AM. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to assist the Knapp family with the arrangements.
